Sealed vs.
sealer dependent.

Macro view of a sealed microcement surface

Most "microcement" sold in Australia is a cementitious topping that is only as waterproof as the sealer rolled on top of it. When that sealer wears, scratches or chemically degrades, water reaches the cement layer beneath, and the surface begins to fail, blister, discolour, or delaminate from the substrate.

CEMHER Microne, the microcement we install at Microcem, is engineered differently. It is waterproof through every layer. Primer, two Microne Base coats, two Microne Top coats and the two part Aquapur70 sealer. The system is not waterproofed by a sealer sitting on the surface. That distinction is the difference between a finish you trust in a shower or wet room for a decade and one that needs to be resealed, recoated or replaced.

Typical cementitious microcement
  • Waterproofing lives in the topcoat sealer only.
  • Sealer wears, scratches and yellows over time.
  • Requires resealing every 2 to 5 years.
  • Sensitive to standing water, soap and cleaners.
  • Failure mode: blistering, dark patches, delamination.
CEMHER Microne, applied by Microcem
  • 100% waterproof through primer, base and top coats.
  • Aquapur70 two part sealer protects, it does not waterproof.
  • 25 year product warranty, AS 4858 and AS 3740 compliant.
  • Low VOC, A+ indoor air quality, no epoxy, PFAS or BPA.
  • Designed for showers, wet rooms and external wet areas.

What to look out for.

  • ·Ask for the product data sheet. If waterproofing is described as a sealer step, the body of the system is not waterproof. The CEMHER Microne TDS lists every layer as waterproof.
  • ·Ask how many physical coats are applied, and at what thickness. The Microne Pro System is two Base coats plus two Top coats, totalling 3 to 4mm.
  • ·Ask for the warranty in writing, on the product and on the application. CEMHER Microne carries a 25 year product warranty.
  • ·Ask whether the applicator is QBCC licensed and insured for waterproofing work, and whether the system is AS 4858 and AS 3740 compliant. We are both.
  • ·Ask to see a hand trowelled colour sample on site before application. No sample, no surface.

We will happily walk you through a comparison in person, sample in hand. That is the only honest way to make this decision.
